Homemade Toy Bookends

Today I am doing a little guest post over at By The Porchlight and since Lesley loves literature so much I decided to make some cute little bookends in honor of her!

This DIY is really easy and fast, the only part that takes any time at all is waiting between coats of paint! I am so excited about it and it really adds some whimsy to my room! :)

First I went to my local craft store and bought wooden blocks to use as the base of the bookends. (they were $0.59 a piece, definitely in my price range!) Next I attached the toys to the base with super glue and waited for it to dry.

Next was the painting! I fell in love with this pistachio green as soon as I saw it and knew that it was exactly what I wanted! I decided to use spray paint because it is so much easier to get an even application! It only took two coats and we were good to go!

Finally, these specific toys are too small and lightweight to support books on their own so I attached them to some plain bookends that I already had with super glue again. The bookends were under $5 originally.

Now all you have to do is wait for it to dry and viola! There you have it! A super simple way to add a little childlike flare to your bookshelves! It is a great idea for dressing up any bookshelf, dorm room, or children's room!

You could definitely make a larger set and not have to use the existing bookends but I didn't want to overwhelm my small book collection (Kindle problems), so I went with these little guys! :)

Anyone else have any book themed projects in the works?

Wishing you a lovely little day!

  6. This is a really great idea, I love that you used tough animals so they'll protect your books. I love the Know It All and SOULPANCAKE!
